Legacy application modernisation
Modernise the systems your business depends on.
What we modernise
Systems your organisation has outgrown, but still depends on.
- 01
Unsupported applications
Software built on platforms that no longer receive security updates, or that depends on knowledge held by only a few people.
- 02
Spreadsheet-based systems
Business-critical processes that have outgrown spreadsheets, shared drives and email, rebuilt as structured, secure applications.
- 03
Desktop and on-premises software
Applications tied to specific machines or servers, rebuilt as secure browser-based systems hosted on managed cloud infrastructure.
- 04
Fragmented manual processes
Processes spread across several tools and manual steps, consolidated into one coherent system with a single source of truth.
Continuity first
The transition, planned as carefully as the software.
The riskiest part of modernisation is the transition. We plan it as carefully as the new software itself.
- 01Data
Data migration as a discipline
Mapping, cleansing, repeatable test migrations and reconciliation, so you can verify that what arrives matches what left.
- 02Integration
Integration continuity
Interfaces that other systems depend on are identified early, so they can be maintained or replaced with the processes around them in mind.
- 03Transition
Controlled operational transition
Cutover plans, parallel running where appropriate, user onboarding and rollback procedures agreed well before go-live.
- 04Knowledge
Undocumented behaviour captured
Rules buried in ageing code and long-standing workarounds are analysed and documented, so important behaviour is preserved.
How we modernise
A staged route from legacy to modern.
- 01
Assess
Understand what the current system does, including undocumented behaviour, data quality and the integrations that depend on it.
- 02
Plan
Choose the right strategy, replace, rebuild or modernise incrementally, and define how data and users will move across.
- 03
Migrate
Develop repeatable, tested data migration with reconciliation reports, rehearsed before the real cutover.
- 04
Transition
Move users and operations across in a controlled way, with support in place and a tested route back if it is needed.
- 05
Decommission
Retire legacy systems once the new platform is proven, retaining archived data as your obligations require.
Questions
Common questions.
Do we have to replace everything at once?
No. Replacing one capability at a time, with old and new systems running side by side, is often the lower-risk route. The right strategy depends on the system and your constraints, and we recommend one during assessment.
What happens to our historical data?
Data migration is planned as a workstream in its own right, mapping, cleansing, test migrations and reconciliation, with an agreed approach for records that are archived rather than migrated.
Our current system has no documentation. Can you still help?
Yes. Assessment includes analysing how the current system is used, its data structures and its behaviour, and documenting what the replacement needs to preserve.
How do you minimise disruption to day-to-day operations?
Through careful transition planning: rehearsed migrations, cutover at an agreed time, parallel running where appropriate, user onboarding and a tested rollback plan.
